3.16.20 Certifiably Insane

I’ve been all over the place lately, both physically and mentally. SunnyStrong has exploded recently and we’ve added a bunch of new followers so I’d like to reintroduce our crazy into the world. Hi, I’m Sunny and I’m certifiably insane.

I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis on January 20, 2015. My definition of normal changes daily, but amidst the current pandemic and life changes, my normal is more mainstream than you’d imagine. 5 years is an above average duration of living with this disease and I’m determined to use that for the greater good of those around me. If you’ve found yourself here because your family, or a family you love, has been impacted by ALS then it is my honor to welcome you with a virtual hug.

My personal life has changed drastically recently but we’ll discuss that later. For now, I want to share that although ALS sucks, this community is resilient and supportive of every person who enters. I encourage you to lean in, find support, ask questions, and allow yourself to be embraced by the love that flows from this community of fighters. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know everything, but I know that I was called to love on those around me. By sharing information with hopes of educating, encouraging, and supporting those living through this disease is one way I choose to show love. This is typically best accomplished through our social media platforms, so please take a second to connect with us on:

  • It’s important to know that I love Jesus and I cuss a little while holding a beer with my tattoos on display. This is a safe place to love and be loved, so plan accordingly. I hate the reason we’re connected (terminal disease) but I’m thankful that we’re all in this together.
  • My new life mantra is: I may embarrass myself but at least I’m not fucking boring. I’m embracing it wholeheartedly, which should excite you.
