Steve Gleason. 9 years with ALS, countless lives impacted by his dedication to fighting this disease, legislation changes, technology improvements, awareness, rewriting of the narrative of diagnosis, and the list goes on and on. This disease is devastating, and Steve has been an agent of change in every area impacted by this life interruption. He is receiving the Congressional Gold Medal today, joining a list of game changers such as Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Pope John Paul II, Arnold Palmer, and Jackie Robinson.
Below are some links with info about today’s ceremony, as well his accomplishments on and off the field. I also pulled some pictures that are representative of this man’s heroic fight. It takes a true leader to invest in the collective growth of the community of pALS despite all of the obstacles presented by this disease.
Monday is my 5 year anniversary with ALS. I’d appreciate it if you could find time between now and then to watch Gleason on Amazon Prime or iTunes. I hope that you learn something about this disease. I hope that you better understand my commitment to this community of fighters. I hope that the movie inspires you to do something you’ve been hesitant about doing. I’d love to answer any questions you have following the film.
